Dionii Fraga D1 Commit
Get to know the girls volleyball libero
Senior Dionii Fraga, finished her 13th year of playing volleyball by signing to play with Fresno State University recently.
“I’ve actually never played any other sports besides volleyball,” said Fraga. “I just loved everything about it. I liked the complexity, chemistry and the joy I received from it,”
Senior and friend Kylah Guzman thinks highly of her teammate.
“‘D’ is amazing. She rarely makes mistakes and keeps our momentum going,” said Guzman.
Senior Natali Herrera agrees.
“Dionii is an important part of our team, her energy and hustle brings the team together,” said Herrera.
Assistant coach Vincent Mejia said her athleticism is unparalleled to any other libero in the Valley.
“She is a key aspect to our team’s success,” said Mejia.
Volleyball has always been a part of her life. She played on elementary and middle school teams in Dinuba before transferring to Sanger High School where she has been a member since freshman year.
Fraga has been the team’s starter libero for the past two years, along with being an outside hitter her freshman year.
One of Fraga’s many strengths is her quickness.
“She never lets balls fall, she is constantly hustling,” said Guzman.
Fraga is able to adapt to the game quickly and she plays her heart out.
“Dionii consistently leads the teams in digs and never hesitates to put her body on the court to save a ball,” said Mejia.
Fraga verbally committed to play D1 volleyball and further her education at Fresno State University last May.
Fraga is excited to continue her athletic career at FSU.
“Committing early made finalizing a bit complex, because of the other division one college programs that were interested in me,” she said. “What made me finalize my verbal commitment to Fresno State is the program and Valley pride.”
According to Fraga, a lot of her support system has come from her family and friends.
“My dad is probably my biggest support system out of those,” said Fraga.
Some college volleyball players that Fraga admires are Morgan Hentz, Lexi Rodergiez, and Zoey Fleck.
“I also look up to Kobe Bryant’s mentality when it comes to the mental part,” said Fraga. “I’m really looking forward to playing at the next level, new relationships with my future teammates, and coaches,” said Fraga.
