Several Sanger High Digital Photography students were honored for photos submitted to the heARTbeat Photography competition sponsored by the Fresno County Office of Education. The students joined other photographers from throughout the county at the K-Jewel Art Gallery for the awards presentation.

More than one third of the student work selected came from Sanger Unified.

“We had a record number of entries this year, so please let them [students] know that there was lots of competition!” said FCOE Director of Arts Education Aaron Bryan.

Sanger High winners included Shyla Perez, Joey Ybarra, Julianna Padilla, Leah Tillotson, Aaron Barrera, Emely Alcantar, Christianna Schiotis, Sebastian Vasquez and Leslie Hernandez. Sanger High Video Production student Zachary Pankratz was also honored at the event. Centerville students Evan and Madelyn Blanchard were also honored. Evan was also honored with the Best in Class award for his photo “Polka Dot Portrait.”

In addition, Sanger High was one of only four high schools in Fresno County to be asked to participate in the new Polaroid Challenge last Friday before the awards ceremony. Two teams from Sanger consisting of Christianna Schiotis and Gabriel Plascensia and Shyla Perez and Valeria Munoz were set free to explore and photograph downtown Fresno for one hour before bringing back their polaroid images for display at the gallery.
