Pathway night at Sanger High School is an opportunity for incoming freshmen and their families to explore different academic and career-focused pathways. Teachers and program leaders showcase hands-on activities, student projects, and technical demonstrations to help students find the right fit for their interests.
“Pathway Night is a great opportunity to talk to incoming freshmen and their parents,” said Robby Heninrich, Digital Technology Instructor.
“Students usually have a pathway or two in mind, so it helps them decide which one will be the best fit for them,” Heninrich added.
Heinrich’s Digital Arts and Media Pathway offers students with experiences in animation, photography, video production, and game design.
Heninrich says, “Students are working on games, animations, and videos while also creating portfolios and taking college courses to get ahead.”
Maria Robles, Spanish Teacher, highlighted the importance of language and learning in career readiness.
“Knowing a second language is essential in our community. The better the students can communicate, the more likely they are to get job opportunities,” Robles said.
She also noted the benefits of the AP Spanish Pathway, which allows students to advance from Spanish 1 to AP Spanish Literature.
Carmen Garvis, Career Technical Education Department Chair, emphasized how impactful the event is for both students and parents.
“My expectations are full for all the programs and representatives participating in Pathway Night to passionately engage with the parents and students so they can leave the event with a better understanding of our programs,” Garvis said.
Garvis also noted that while students don’t sign up for pathways at the event, but its an opportunity to meet teachers and explore different fields. This makes a big difference when it comes to course registration in March.
With over 100 families (needs to be past tense) to attend, the event provided a chance for students to ask questions and interact with teachers and program representatives.
Students are set up for the best future with pathways said Heinrich.
