Twisters: This film was so much more than just an action. The actors really made the movie. Glen Powell was perfect for the role; he gave it a touch of humor and a dash of romance that was a pleasant surprise going into this movie. Daisy Edgar Jones was the face of female empowerment from start to end, showing how making a difference takes leaning into compassion and forcefully taking the lead in the head of a storm. Set in Oklahoma, the plot revolves around trying to use a man-made design to lessen the effects of a natural disaster while also navigating around trauma, and trying to protect people from the tornado. The soundtrack was top tier, and the songs being specifically made for the movie was SO fitting and true to its Midwest vibe, which elevated it all the more. I appreciated the many elements layered in the message of the movie, such as the value in knowledge, dangers of tempting nature, proving yourself, trial and error, of giving up on your dreams– and chasing them (literally). Overall, the film had it all and I’d give it a 8/10.
We Live in Time: It was devastating. And SO beautiful. Every second of this movie was bittersweet. The entire premise was built in the concept of “time” and how much we truly have of it— which is not a lot. The relationship between the main characters Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias (Andrew Garfield) was developed so incredibly well, showing every stage, every feeling, and every struggle weaved into the past and present. This is one of those movies where you know how it’ll end, yet you stay anyways—for the journey. The most special part of this movie was seeing the way the characters communicated with the smallest of acts that served a double meaning. It felt more personal and true to the pain they went through. In the most sentimental way, this film is perfect in understanding the journey in grief to recovery. I wouldn’t give it anything less than a 10/10. If you want to cry, then watch it.
