Sanger High School is offering students who are preparing for employment opportunities in the ROP Career and Child class for dual enrollment credits the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year.
Emely Alcantar, a senior taking the ROP Career and Child class, says her favorite part of this class is being able to see if she really wants to teach preschool students as she continues the school year.
Alcantar states, “Well I had to take this class because of my pathway last year, but I came back due to the fact I loved teaching. I love kids so much, so taking this class really makes it feel like I am meant to be a teacher,”
She adds, “The class is based on how to create lesson plans for 3-4 year olds. Along with that, we get benefits from being able to get hands-on experience to work in a daycare. We help Mrs. Zaninovich with each period where we do different things. In the advanced class, we create the snacks they will eat for the month.”
Paula Zaninovich, formerly known as Ms. Shelly to her students, is this year’s teacher for Careers with Children 1 and 2. She is also the Director of on-site child care program Little Apaches. This is her second year teaching at Sanger High School.
The little Apaches are preschoolers that come to the school and they learn basic school concepts. The little apaches help students learn career preparation skills for this specific line of field.
Sanger High is now offering students the opportunity for dual enrollment credits when taking this class for the second semester. These dual enrollment classes provide students college credit.
The students who plan lessons teaching this class with Zaninovich have allowed her to provide a consistent and competent teaching role model for these students who are taking this course while working with the preschool students.
Students take this class to see whether or not they would like to be a teacher in the future and make lesson plans for preschool students. It also helps these students by learning to do these things when and if they become teachers.
“There are a few reasons students might take this class. First, it’s an elective course that many students take because they enjoy being around young children,”
Zanonvich continues, “Other students take the course as career exploration to see if teaching is a career field they might like to pursue after graduation,” According to the Sanger High School Pathway catalog and Education Pathway, Zaninovich reported that students take the course as their junior year requirement toward completing the pathway.
Shannon Gonzales is the new teacher assistant for this child development class, this is her first year teaching the Little Apaches preschool.
Gonzales says the purpose of the class is to teach you how to work with children, “Students take this class when they want to go into teaching.”
This is the purpose of the class and why students take it. This class also helps when you enter college, so that people would earn the college credits they need. Gonzales describes this class as fun, exciting, and how its always an adventure.
Alcantar states, “I would suggest the class to anyone who loves kids or just wants to know if they want to go into the education field,”
“Mrs. Shelly is a great teacher with lots of knowledge, I recommend you to take this class if you want a teaching career,” says Gonzales.
Overall this class offers students earn dual enrollment credits and also helps people want to become great teachers in the future.
