“The team has won multiple league championships and has had many athletes qualify to the exclusive California State meet,” says Brian Penner.
Just in a year, Sanger High’s track and field team had jumped to new heights for pole vault.
“Our most singular individual accomplishment is Atianna Marquez’s near-school record pole vault mark of 11 ‘6″ last week at the Sanger Easter Classic,” says Penner.
Atianna Marquez explains the success she had at pole vault along with mentioning her score for the success of “100 meters- 12.50 seconds,” says Marquez.
The runners of the holding time for this year were Daniel Galvez, a senior distance runner. Also succeeding for the track and field is Chloe Lopez, a senior sprinter for Sanger’s field section as well as Nathan Velasquez, a senior thrower improving in their times and distances from last year.
“Last year I ran 4:24 in the mile, 12:06 in the 800 and 10:24 in the 2 mile. This year I’ve run 4:20, 1: 57 and 9:30,” says Galvez. The athletes have had a lot of training with coaches and on their own time.
“Our track and field athletes train very hard and with attention to detail in their events. Their preparation helps them to compete at a high level at meets throughout the season,” says Penner.
Individual and team success was the goal for the student athletes who took time for the sport itself. The way the athletes will say they succeeded is by being humble in their motivation to succeed.pole vault, athlete says by “Hard work, great coaches, lots of reps,” it will help for the successes of the track and field. The Sanger High’s track and field team will continue to participate in meets at home until they are done with the three major meets of the year.
“Our team will host three important meets in the next month and a half: The Sanger Metric Classic on April 19, The CMAC Championships on May 2, The CIF Central Section Division 1 Championships on May 10,” says Penner.
