Freshman voices speak about how being in high school sports is different than being in middle school sports. Students have gained more experience while being in high school playing sports alongside older and mature students.
Gianna Magnone, volleyball freshman student states, “In high school you are more involved in the program and it is a bigger responsibility.”
High school sports are definitely more of a challenge but a wonderful experience. You’re pushed more in high school to do your best and have good sportsmanship.
“High school is more strict and competitive and carries high expectations,” said Crystin Hernandez, a cheer student.
It is tough being watched and being held to a high expectation so you need motivation and support. Parents and family are there for that reason.
“My dad is the biggest supporter of all. Every Saturday we will play for 3 hours or more,” says Reyva Sohan, a tennis frosh student.
Nothing is more relieving when you have support at home.
Overall, these freshman students feel pretty confident about joining high school sports. “It pushes me to do my best and how to juggle school and sports,” says Jordin Zavala, a freshman cheer student.
Throughout high school and playing competitive sports, you make friends and learn leadership skills along with good sportsmanship.
“It keeps me involved and busy but also active,” said Magnone.
Being a student athlete is not easy but you learn responsibility and learn to use your time wisely. It also teaches teamwork, playing and participating with your teammates.
